Waiting to Loose The Weight
It is a good thing that most women don't think about the aftermath of childbirth reguarding their bodies. It's a good thing because then maybe more women would decide never to get pregnant. Believe me, being a mother of two, I didn't think about it for a split second. Okay that's a lie, I thought about it for about five minutes maybe when I started to get stretch marks later in my first pregnancy. I remember thinking, "Oh no! I wonder if they will be something I'll just have to get used to." Well, I did. Sort of. I'm not so upset about them two years after my second child.
After my first child was born, I felt like a hippotamus. Seriously, I didn't even own a full length mirror. I was always wearing baggy clothes just so I couldn't see the extra weight I gained. I took the phrase, "eating for two", a little bit too seriously. I was eating all the time, even when I wasn't hungry. So I gained an extra thirty pounds then I should have. I know, your probably thinking right now, "an extra thirty?". Well, yes that was a result of trying to eat everything that wasn't glued down. To be honest I learned a very good lesson from my first pregnancy, and that was: eat healthy, not everything.
It took me about two years to loose the extra weight and start to feel good about my body again. It kind of happened suddenly, when my second little baby turned into an energetic toddler. Chasing around a four year old and a two year old is a great work out. I always joke with a good friend of mine about that. She tells me all the time that she wants to try to loose weight. I think she looks great the way she is, but I always tell her, "If you want to loose weight I'll just leave you with my kids for a week."
After two children, I finally started to feel good about the way that I look. I have my kids to thank for that. Sure I got frustrated when I had to chase them all over the place at the play ground all those times. Or for cleaning up their toys every five minutes. But, on the bright side my body started to get toned from it. Okay I'm not trying to brag but I can feel good that I can be satisfied with my body, can't I? Another plus from having the kids is that I'm forced to eat healthier. I may not look perfect but I'm happy that I realized that its better to be healthy and feel good about yourself.
So don't be afraid to have children. I'm going to be very cliche right now and say this: Childbirth is a miraculous gift. I couldn't be more blessed for the children I have. I'm pretty sure every mother feels the same way. Some, like me, just have to work a little on their self esteem. That is the greater challenge.
