Vancouver A Beautiful Place To Visit
For anyone who enjoys generous helping of nature in all her glory
, with a dollop of adventure sports, a side order of great shopping topped with gastronomic delights from around the world, Vancouver is the place to be. Its a delightful urban hub that offers panoramic views of the sea, the sky and the peaks. With open parks full of maples, alders and evergreen conifers, the snow-capped North Shore Mountains and deep blue waters of the English Bay spread out before you, seldom would you find a world city that is as picture-pretty.
Vancouver is considered one of the most livable cities in the world because of its clean air, water and a high quality of life. The multi-cultural communities here live in harmony and enjoy each others lifestyles and cultures without treading on too many toes. So it is aptly called the City of Neighborhoods, each with a distinct character and ethnic mix. People of English, Scottish and Irish origins are historically the largest ethnic groups in the city and element of British society and culture is still visible in some areas, particularly South Granville and Kerri dale the city has one of the most diverse Chinese-speaking communities, with several dialects represented, including Cantonese and Mandarin.
Unpredictable is one world to describe Vancouvers weather. It can be completely different depending on which part of the city you are in. It can rain on the North Shore and be sunny on the White Rock. Conventionally, it rains a lot in Vancouver, especially during the winter months, but in summer, it pours less than in most other Canadian cities. In the early summer, the days often start out cloudy because of marine air but become clear by noon. Vancouver is actually the second driest major Canadian city (after Victoria) though not very hot with the temperatures staying around the 25C mark. In winter, the city often goes weeks without seeing the sun or a dry day but the temperature rarely goes below freezing point. In fact, I feel the weather here is similar to southern UK. If you are visiting the city between July and October, you are most likely to find excellent weather conditions. IF you wish to ski, the best time is February.
Transport within Vancouver is easily available in the form of the citys Translink buses, commuter rail network (called West Coast Express), ferries, sea bus, and sky train or
car rentals in Vancouver. The city and its suburbs are well-connected and depending on how many zones you want to travel through, fares range from Canadian $2.50 for one zone to $5 for three zones. Be careful to carry the exact change as public buses do not give you any.
If youre really brave, I dare you to cross the suspension bridge which hangs 20 storeys above Lynn Creek. The Lynn Canyon and Ecology Centre is a 616 acre park with a rainforest, a 30ft natural pool and twin waterfalls. This is a great place for a picnic.
