One season is over, Christmas. Soon another day of celebration will be upon us. Valentines Day. This is the one day of the year that we share with our loved ones in a special way. A day set aside to concentrate on our spouse, our partner, our children, our friends and our parents.
The word love has so many different meanings. The greatest love of all, Agapao love, is the love a father (mother) has for their children. This love is unconditional. A type of love that will do whatever needs to be do done, in the very best interest of the other person. Regardless of the cost or sacrifice to myself, I will love the other person. Meaning that I will DO or act in the best interest of the other. It doesnt always mean that the other person will like what I am doing but that my motivation will be that the others interest is ahead of my interest. In the spiritual world, this is the love that God has for me and for us. His love led him to do what we couldnt do for ourselves. When we follow the agape love, we will always think of the other person and what is best for them.
Another love is Phileo love. This love is shown between people who are closely related to each other, whether by friendship, physically or spiritually. The city of Philadelphia comes from this friendship word of love, The city of brotherly love.
The love between married couples is Eros. This is the love that draws people together, to become a couple. This is the aspect of love that is celebrated most on Valentines day. This is the Cupid kind of love, the romantic love between adults. Cupid sends his arrows and hits you in the heart and causes flutters!
And so Valentines Day was created to celebrate love. Feb. 14, every year, the world turns to hearts, candy and flowers. Lots of legends surround the history of Valentines Day. The most prevalent credits St. Valentine, a priest who served in Rome in during the 3rd century. Some stories say he helped Christians escape from Roman prisons. Other legends say that when married men were not to serve in the army that Valentine continued to marry them in secret. Still another says that when Valentine was in prison he fell in love and sent the first valentine card to his secret love.
However the day began, it has continued around the world and through the years. Use the day to express your love to the people in your life. Giving greeting cards, chocolate/cadies, diamonds or a specially made valentines Gift basket, be sure to acknowledge the one you love.
