Two MInute Ticker Commentary - January 19,2010
Two Minute Commentary It has been another crazy week just about everywhere and once again there is no shortage of stories to write about
. Hey Yemen! How the hell are you! It is always sad to be talked about in a bad way but for small countries like Yeman, who would probably love to remain under the radar so to speak, it is even harder to save face when you are mentioned in the same story with countries such as Pakistan and Afghanistan. Welcome aboard!
I look forward to hopefully hearing nothing else about you. Good luck. For the news media in general. Hey guys we the viewers are tiring of the whole 'Iran has nukes Iran doesn't have nukes and what will Isreal do' scenarios that you are putting forward. Where have we seen this before. It sounds familiar. I remember now. Oh yeah, I'm talking about North Korea. They must be pissed. Iran is completely upstaging them right now. Getting all the ratings and stealing all of North Koreas CNN face-time.We had just finished discussing the latest threats from North Korea when suddenly, as quickly as an NBC contract obligation can disappear, we were all discussing the nuclear threat coming out of Iran. I miss Kim.
For all of his evil misdoings he was still a kinda-kooky, somewhat lovable dictator. Closer to home its things have gotten a little surreal. The Canadian government has decided that it does not really need to operate for a full quarter of this year. Does that sound strange? Oh well like bills that came in the mail in the old days 'no news is good news' as far as I am concerned. One less politician to have to listen to on the news. Which is good. I mean the airwaves are crammed with them these days. They have way better publicists than most of the stars in Hollywood. Seems like you can not turn around without getting a sound bite from this politician or that, and it isn't about message. Not any more. Our politicians of the day are more about 'form over factor'. That is to say all style and no substance. Well apparently now that they are not going to parliament they can get things done in their respective constituencies. What? What the heck have they been doing in parliament all this time if they haven't been doing that there as well? You mean the time you spend in the house is of no benefit to us? What about the cost of shutting down government. It does seem somewhat counter intuitive to think that closing down the government would be more expensive than keeping the whole circus up and running but it is true. It hasn't really been discussed but what about all the committies that were sitting? What about all the motions that were about to be carried forward? Everything stops in mid-stream and will have to be restarted from scratch if at all. How is this entire scenario beneficial to me? How is it helping us? From the start I would like to state out our heartfelt shock and sorrow caused by the disaster in Haiti last week. The destruction that the earth quake brought is beyond belief in scope and happened in a land where the people have always been challenged to eke out an existence. Our hopes go out to those in need.
