Tips for a Green Wedding
If you and your significant other believe in maintaining a sustainable lifestyle, going green for your wedding day is an ideal way for your ceremony or reception to reflect who you are and what you believe in. The new trend in wedding planning is to factor in environment friendly ideas, items, and locations to achieve the ultimate green wedding!
As far as location is concerned, the most eco-friendly place to have your ceremony or reception is outdoors. Hotels, ballrooms, and resorts use a lot of electricity to host events, while the outdoors produces a natural lighting and setting for your special day. If you're not keen about an outdoor wedding, research venues that are eco-friendly or have a lot of natural light that comes in during the day. Also, choosing a location that is conveniently located to your guests will minimize travel impact!
If you think about it, there are a lot of paper products used during the wedding process. If you and your partner are looking to "save a tree", consider using online invitations to the bridal shower, bachelorette party, and actual wedding. Some couples set up a wedding website where their guests can go to receive all information about the wedding and other events. If you're still considering using paper, look for recycled paper or use soy or vegetable-based inks. Consolidate the paper that you do use; instead of placing a menu at every seat, place two at each table!
Every bride wants to look fabulous on her wedding day, but is it possible to dress her with green in mind? Sure is! Find a wedding gown made of hemp silk or organic cotton. Other brides have chosen to search thrift stores to find a more vintage look or even borrow a dress from a friend! The smartest decision you can make while purchasing your bridal gown or your bridesmaids gown is to choose something that you can get use out of more than once. Also, donating your dress to a charity or the Salvation Army after your wedding is a wonderful way to give someone else the opportunity to look beautiful at their wedding.
There are tons of other great tips for going green at your wedding. Use organic or vegetarian dishes for your meal. Give your guests favors like natural soaps, organic chocolates, or a small plant. Choose somewhere local for your honeymoon so you reduce travel. Opt for organic flowers or vintage rings. Whatever your eco-friendly ideas may be, incorporate them on your wedding day and feel good about your choices!
