Tips On Preventing Fire In The Business Place

In the year 2007, there were 630,000 fire and false alarm incidents that were attended in England

. In the same year, the incidents reached up to 804,000 in the United Kingdom alone. Fire has always been a constant companion of every community in the United Kingdom, especially for business establishments. As lives are threatened of possible fire incidents, it is only fitting for business owners to maintain precautionary steps. Below are some tips that may help you prevent the occurrence of fire in your work place, and therefore, prevent losing lives.

Make it a point that your store has escape routes. At the same time, make sure that these escape routes are not only easily accessible but also designed to fit the average number of people who are within your work place. If you have a two-storey building, it is wise to have escape routes on both storeys. Also, make sure that the people within your building are aware of these routes by putting up fire safety signs and conducting fire drills. So, when a fire breaks out, they will know where to go and what to do. These escape routes may be in the form of an improvised window, an escape door, and even an emergency ladder.

Make sure that you have your work place inspected regularly. You may call on a technician to perform diagnostic tests on any equipment or appliances present in your store to make sure that they are not fire hazards. If you have gas lines in your stores, it is best to have them checked at least twice a year. Furthermore, your heat regulators should be inspected for possible fire hazardous components, but most of the time, it is still always best to prohibit your employees from smoking within your building. More often than not, these simple things, such as faulty wiring and lit cigarettes are the common causes of fire breakouts.

It is therefore advisable to install your work place with an alarm system packed with a carbon dioxide component. Not only will it be of great help when fire breaks out, but more importantly it will give you enough reassurance that you are absolutely safe inside the work place. Having an alarm system within your building will automatically signal your people when a possibly fire has occurred. As the business owner, it is one of your responsibilities to regularly have someone check your fire extinguishers and if need be, have them replaced at once.

A very important tip in preventing fire incidents is education. As a business owner, you should lead each of your employees or staff, especially the new ones, on what may cause a fire to break out within your building. After which, teach them what to do when a fire strikes your work place. You can also employ regular fire drills so as not to forget the knowledge. Make sure that all of your employees understand the nature of fire and what it can possibly bring to your business.
