Sure, you're a guy and you talk like a guy. But, this is the first step in thinning the herd. You've got to talk in a way that women appreciate. Smooth and simple speech is the way for most men. They keep stuff simple: "I don't like booze." "I exercise a lot." No frills.

Statements like those are lady-killers and not in a good way. Think about it, a woman doesn't want a series of little factoids. That's yawn city. Women are interested in the man, not what the man owns or where he lives or how tall he his. That's where a thing called personality comes into play; show it off.

The Fix: Weave stories around the facts of your life that let her see who you are. Give something such as this a whirl: "When I go camping in the desert, I always awaken at midnight to watch the stars. Sometimes, if I'm lucky, I see a meteor or two, and make a wish." Look at what you've done. You've said so much more to her than "I think camping is neat."

Mistake #2: A Profile Picture That Makes Her Wish You'd Left It Blank.

Look at your picture long and hard, because she will, too. The picture is supposed to show you at your best. Are you out of focus? Are you doing something you often do? Are you cutesy? Probably none of those, so don't post it.

You may have an awesome body that you've worked real hard to get real hard. But body shots lack class. The most they impart is that you're only interested in a physical relationship. That to you, internet dating is sex dating, period.

The Fix: Let someone help you capture the real you. You could opt for a professionally done portrait, but that's not necessary. Use that shot of you fishing on your favorite stream. Or some other activity you've described in your profile.

Mistake #3: Profile Name That Elicits Groans.

Remember, a name means a lot. What does "Desperate4Luv" or "ShyGuy85" mean? Pathetic, that's what. And skip the boring, "Jim95" or "Handsome77".

The Fix: Conjure up something memorable and fascinating, as you are, something like "GuitarsAndGears" if you're into stock car racing and steel guitars. An overtly sexual user name is, once again, a little pathetic. But a name that could be taken one of two ways might work. For instance, you could get away with "AnimalLover" if you work at an animal shelter or you just love pets.

Now that you know of these three mistakes, you should have few problems as you sit down and start building or rebuilding your online dating profile. And you'll see the results you want.
