Three Costs To Consider When Buying An Uncommon Car
For cars to fit this specification, the major car manufacturers should be able to provide at least one model that is perfectly suitable.
There are many car buyers who look for something different, however and they know exactly what they want and how much it's going to cost them.
If you're not particularly au fait with cars and go out looking for something that's a little less mainstream, though, you could be faced with a number of costs that you weren't expecting and these three are prime examples.
1. Transport - should you be looking to buy a car from abroad, imported to the UK for you to drive regularly, one of the major costs is going to be the transportation of the vehicle.
Likely to cost well into the thousands upon thousands of pounds, you might have thought you've spotted a bargain car, but it could work out to be well over budget when you take into consideration the cost of getting it to the UK.
2. Insurance - the way car insurers work is simple and they base everything on risk. Every single piece of information that you provide them with has a certain degree of risk associated with it, from your Date of Birth - young drivers are more likely to be involved in accidents than older drivers - right through to the Post Code where you keep the car - if the Post Code is in a high crime area, your car is more likely to be stolen or broken into - and the popularity of the car is one of those factors.
The reason behind this is that if you went out and bought a Ford Fiesta and you needed to claim on your insurance because it was damaged, it wouldn't cost the insurer a large amount of money to repair it as the Fiestas are heavily supported from third party companies and are generally cheap to fix.
Should you have just driven out of Dodge dealers and been involved in an accident, however, whilst Dodge dealers are becoming more and more popular, Dodge cars still only make up a tiny percentage of the UK market and are therefore more expensive to repair.
3. On-going maintenance - the more popular a car is, the more supported it is and the cheaper it is to fix, as you're given the choice between mass produced branded parts and mass produced non-branded parts.
Therefore, if the car you're looking to buy is particularly uncommon, the cost to maintain it will be considerably more than a popular car for the simple fact that you'll not doubt have to see a specialist in the industry for that car and won't be able to walk into a major car maintenance shop for the parts.
