Thoughts - Where Men Go Astray
Your thought life is all powerful
Your thought life is all powerful. It is where men go astray. Stay home, man. Stay home. Look what you have. Why leave it? What's so alluring on the other side of the fence? Is there something wrong with your brain, your thinking, or your raising? The kind of stuff you think about seldom works out. And the hurt is deep for those involved. But blindly, or is it, you march on. Right through the barbed wire, to get to the other side. And as you graze on the other side, you'll look back over the barbed wire fence, and there it is, your old life. What do you think now? Was it worth it? Are you sorry? Do you want to go back? And will you do it again?
I doubt you understand your own behavior. Most do not. If you ever analyze your direction, you will only scratch your head. Why do men leave? Why do they want someone else? How can a man get a hold of himself?
It doesn't happen overnight, usually. Most men stray over a period of time. It is subtle and almost always exciting. It gives chills and thrills, for a while.
When a man goes astray it is first in his thoughts. That's the first step. The body is a follower. The thought life is control central. It is the leader. That's where the issues reside.
Here is John. He is a normal husband and father who loves his family. He provides for them and enjoys their time. But when he is alone, there is something else happening in his head. He has thoughts that are secretive. No one would ever believe what is in there. His thoughts sometimes leads to such things as pornography. Honestly, he hates it and carries guilt. But stopping is another story.
Here is the question - If a guy hates his thought life and where it leads, why doesn't he stop? It is not that easy. Some carry these issues their entire life, all the way to the grave. There are two initial steps to healing.
1. Know where the issues reside. We have already stated that it is within the realm of your thought life. Nothing is more powerful. Even the Bible says that as a man thinks, so is he. Chopping off your fingers or poking out your eyes would change nothing, they only do what they are told. So it is your thoughts.
2. Your thoughts are neutral. Does that surprise you? Even though they direct you, they have an influence outside of them. What do you feed them? What do you allow them to look at or dwell upon?
Here is an example. You have two dogs, one black and one white. They are the same size and temperament. They have the same abilities. If you want the white dog to win over the black dog, what is your best tactic? The answer is to feed the white dog and not the black dog. What happens to the black dog when you refuse to feed him? He gets weaker and weaker.
Now make the practical application. The thoughts that control you are the ones you feed. Begin feeding the white dog, so to speak, and starve the black dog. It takes time to weaken him, but it will happen. When the strong moments hit you, take advantage and read and listen to things to strengthen what you really want to be thinking about. This is the beginning of getting control.
