In the UK people tend to find themselves spending more time in their homes due to
the predominantly inhospitable weather experienced for much of the year. This lends to a culture quite firmly centred around the TV, but if you have the space or inclination there are alternatives open to you.
A pool table for example, serves the dual-purpose of both a functional entertainment device and a decorative touch that gives any room in the home that something extra. Of course the cheaper models might fall a little short on the decorative point, but the mid-range to high-end models that enjoy a solid wood table body construction look more than fantastic particularly in a home bar or games room (not just for the kids, but for adults too).

The first consideration to investigate is one of size. While the mid-sized 5-7 ft tables are suitable for any style of game (7, 8, or 9 ball pool), if you play 9-ball to a high standard or are used to the larger American pool tables then the Riley 9ft models are one of the only options currently available.

Other style options include the type of balls: red and yellow or spots and stripes. Designed to handle the elements, they enjoy the ability to withstand accidental spillages and poor cue-manship due to the specially designed table covering. These tables are typically found outside in bar patio areas or in indoor establishments where the clientele would be expected to pay little attention to how they treat the pool table.
Unfortunately most of us find insufficient free time to justify having a pool table in the home for our own means, but those with children tend to go for a pool table as a means of entertainment that doesnt involve sitting down such as the TV or a games console.
