When you received the news of your pregnancy you were overjoyed. Your first hint that things were going to change was the doctor telling you not to gain more than 20-25 pounds over the next 9 months. The expectation of the new baby superseded any personal thought of how your body would change. So how will I lose the pregnancy weight?
When you were pregnant the cravings would get uncontrollable; why else would anyone eat pickles and ice cream? Your friends and relatives would constantly remind you that your eating for two now. The weight really can pile on over those last eight weeks and you blew by the 25 pounds. After you delivered you started feeling depressed because you can't get back into your normal clothes.
Your bundle of joy now keeps you up at night and you're too tired to even think about exercising. You grab whatever you can to eat in between naps and your still hungry all the time. It appears you trained yourself to eat over the last nine months and it's not easy to cut back on your new eating habits.
So what do you do? You try to cut back and control what you eat, but your hormones are still raging and you have little self control. You start paying attention to the millions of commercials and ads that tell you that you can burn fat in your sleep. Several hundred dollars later you check your weight and it is higher than it was a few weeks ago.
Now you're skeptical and you do not know who or what to believe. So where do you turn to get help? The internet is full of information but you realize that anyone can write or say anything online. The majority of weight loss products are not regulated by the FDA. This is good and bad news; since you don't have to see a doctor and get a prescription to try all these miracle cures for obesity. The bad news is without the government regulations the makers can claim anything they want; like "burn fat while you sleep". See my Diet FAQ for the answers to the most common weight loss questions.
