By first acting like you are not interested, and then kind of noticing her, and then giving her attention is a great way to come in under the radar, and make the girl actually happy that you're talking to her. She'll feel is that she's earned something special by getting your attention.
It's absolutely vital that you engage the entire group at all times however, and every girl in the group must like you. If even one of the girls in the group is disapproving, she'll snatch the whole group from under your nose before you can blink. So be polite, and talk to all the women in the group, and keep them interested in you.
