Installing a CCTV camera, IP camera or several around your local business is a move
that can benefit you, your workers, the public and even the general public and police. By having CCTV installed you not only help to capture criminals by helping the police to identify them, but also to deter them from crime in the first place; if they know you have CCTV they may be less likely to be abusive to staff, or may move on somewhere else they know does. For this reason a large sign informing customers and pedestrians that CCTV is installed can be a great security measure on its own.This way your staff can feel safe when working, and you can save yourself being taken to caught over work-related injuries too. As well as protecting the staff however, you also protect the general public and your customers, as its possible that a crime could take place within your premises even if it doesnt affect you. While it is most commonly installed in businesses where crime seems likely in bars and clubs, in newsagents or in warehouses containing valuable goods it actually has uses even when theres very little chance of theft.

If you dont store anything of value then theres little chance youll be burgled by civilians, however that doesnt mean that your own staff cant steal from you; and every company has money and supplies that are put in front of the staff on a daily basis. This way should money go missing from the till, you can check back over the CCTV footage to see if your staff might be responsible. This helps you and protects you against theft, but it also helps them, by protecting them against false allegations when potentially the theft was perpetrated by another member of staff, or the tills not adding up is due instead to a simple error.
Staff can also steel supplies however, and while the odd pen may be acceptable, when this extends to stealing the product itself or taking large amounts of supplies this can then become serious. At the same time staff might steal less concrete things such as time or information. By constantly clocking in late and not informing you, or by leaving early on a regular basis, staff are essentially steeling from the companys wallet by being paid for time they havent put in. Similarly by taking information about the market or clients in order to sell on or use to start up a rival business, staff can cripple the entire company.
Surveillance from a CCTV or IP camera can also give you a different perspective on the environment your business operates in. It can thus help you to check that your staff are happy at work, that the office or shop floor is arranged for optimal productivity and marketing potential, and that the whole machine is running smoothly. Investing in a CCTV or IP security system then can greatly benefit any business and save them potentially thousands of pounds.
