The Importance Of Designating A Family Communication Area And How To Do It
Most families today are so busy they don't have enough time to communicate with each other. Communication is very important in preventing stress, arguments, frustration, wasted time and wasted resources. Designating a communication area somewhere inside your home can help tremendously in keeping everyone in the family well informed, well organized and working well together. This communication area should be in a place that everyone walks by each day. It should also be in a place where everyone can pick up/distribute belongings, pick up/leave notes and reminders, check off to do lists, check schedules and more. This area should have an erasable board or bulletin board for posting notes and other items, pens, pencils, sticky notes and/or paper for writing notes, and a family calendar for keeping track of all family member's schedules and events. You should also have an area (maybe just a table or cleared off surface to work on) to place lost, misplaced or miscellaneous items. Suggested items to keep in any family communication area include (but should not be limited to); to do lists, chores sheets, family calendar, items to be distributed, notes, reminders, schedules, incoming mail to be distributed, clean clothes to be distributed to each family member's room, and more. Basically, anything you need to communicate, share or distribute to other members of your family should all be kept in this area.
Some places you may want your communication area to be; an office, entrance way, hallway, mudroom or laundry room. The important thing to remember is that it should be in a common place in the home that everyone in the family will be walking through on a daily basis. After a while, everyone will know where to leave notes or items and where to go for what they need and communication should no longer be a problem.
