Sometime within our lifetime most of us will fight a battle with extra body fat and many of us will lose this battle

. We are starting to hear more and more that traditional diets do not work and we may have even experienced it ourselves. Diets do cause us to lose weight alright but once you are off the diet any weight lost is quickly regained and maybe some more as well.

Much of the information we receive about nutrition, weight loss and dieting comes from misleading television infomercials and when it does not happen for us like they say it should we get confused about why our attempts are unsuccessful.

The key to permanent and successful weight loss is not about counting calories, fat grams or strict food restriction. It is really about improving metabolism which is the rate our body burns fuel (calories). Diets that promise fast weight loss drastically reduce calories and this has an adverse affect on metabolism.

Once the body cottons on to the lowered food intake it swiftly puts the brakes on fat loss and instead does the opposite - holds on to its fat stores as it thinks it is going to starve.

To avoid this situation and keep under the body's radar only a hundred or two calories are reduced each day.

This food is increased in quality so each meal contains a portion of protein and some vegetables to give the metabolism a boost just digesting and processing the denser food. When you eat 4-6 small meals every 3 hours throughout the day made up of the right ratios of macro-nutrients (protein, carbohydrates and fats) it gets your metabolic fire burning hot - and heat means extra fuel is burnt.

This is half the fat loss formula, the other half is to boost the metabolic rate through proper exercise which means mostly strength training exercise. What we want to achieve is a higher rate of fuel burning every minute of the day and night. So it is not so important to burn calories while we are exercising, we want to change our body so it burns more calories when we are not exercising.

This is the way to get a strong, slim and trim body and more importantly to keep it for the long term. Missing meals, not eating enough food, eating the wrong types of food, eating too much processed food, low intensity ineffective long duration activity and not doing strength training are all things that will halt your progress to fat loss success..

The successful formula is quite simple but it has to be followed if you wish to be pleased with your results. We need to alter the hormonal balance in an overweight body and we do that by 1) proper strength training exercise and 2) small meals that are nutritionally balanced and we do these things consistently over time.
