Strengthen Family Ties With Family Web Sites

Remember the days when you go to reunions and you can't recall a name of a third-degree cousin or the cousin's aunt who is also a cousin of the sister of your uncle's wife

? It is a strain to be memorizing names, let alone their faces. A great way to keep a record of all of your family members would be creating a family tree. Better yet, why not make it an online family tree. Family web sites can be a huge help in storing your family's information, history and even medical records.

A site where your family members can view and update their own information is the perfect way to know more about your kin. Here are some of the few things that your family site can include:

User Profile. Like any account on the web, a user profile which can be viewed by the family members is one of the most important things to include. Here, the member can add statistics like height and weight, vital information like date of birth and birthplace and even shout-outs to allow opinions to be stated. It is most important to also pose questions such as 'Where are you now?' or 'Current job' to be keep track of that family member. A photo wouldn't hurt either.

Medical Records. It may be confidential for some, but it is quite important to know the sickness, illnesses that had befallen upon your ancestors. If most of them are prone to cancer, then, according to genetics, you are most likely to be prone too. This information may be allowed public or accessed only with the permission of the member.

Linkage. The central part of family web sites is the relations of the member to another member. There must be a mechanism that would allow determination of linkages among the family members. It's like building the family tree, only the member would be the one to connect to each other. It is also perhaps allowable to make other members edit the link of another member, with of course, proper verification.

Mailing List. A great way to connect to people for announcements and upcoming events is to individually email your relatives. Say, you're sister is throwing a baby shower and you wish to invite your relatives who are mothers up to the second degree. Using the family web site, you can search all the mothers according to their user profile and with just a few clicks, send out an invitation.

Forums. Feedback, feedback, feedback. Forums are like chat rooms, not necessary in real time, where you can discuss anything with your relations. A possible reunion venue perhaps or comments on Uncle Fred's birthday party would be some topics to discuss. Or even trivial things like your best photo or your worst date can be topics of discussion. The main aim of the forums is to allow communication between the members.

Family web sites can be simple or it can be full of cool features. Fortunately, there are already ready-made websites within reach for a certain cost. Having your own family web site can strengthen ties and may perhaps allow you to finally memorize your cousin's aunt who is also a cousin of the sister of your uncle's wife's name.
