So why do many of us find it hard? Mostly because of our expectations. We try a diet for a few weeks look in the mirror and don't see much change and so we quit and go back to unhealthy habits. The truth is it took us years to put on the weight but we expect it to melt away in a few weeks.
Not going to happen. But you don't need to go on a tasteless and depriving crash diet either. Small lifestyle changes are all most of us need and here are my best simple ways to healthy weight loss.
EXERCISE REGUARLY:
Unless you have a serious medical condition you should be exercising, even if it's just walking 15-20 minutes a day. The key here is regularly. It's no good jogging 10k on Saturday and not doing anything until the following weekend. Doing a little often is much better for your heart and weight loss. Pick your own exercise regime but make time and stick to a consistent schedule. Exercise should be a habit of life like showering and flossing your teeth you do floss don't you?
EAT SMALLER PORTIONS:
For many it's not so much what they eat but how much. We've got conditioned to unnecessarily large and super-size portions. Eat smaller and chew longer for best results. There is a delay before your stomach sends the signal to your brain you're full. If you eat fast or continuously at your meal then by the time you get the signal to stop eating you'll have eaten too much. Take food slower and savor it and your stomach will love you for it. Consider purchasing a portion control plate they're smaller than normal dinner plates and most have a helpful portion control design.
CUT OUT SNACKS:
The scourge of American life is snacks. We learn to expect them in school and some even substitute three square meals for a day full of snacks. Cutting out snacks between meals can aid your weight loss greatly. Of course life gets in the way sometimes and if you find yourself needing an energy boost then nuts and fruits should be first choice. Don't ever skip breakfast the most important meal of the day.
DRINK PLENTY OF WATER:
If you eat plenty of fruits and vegetables you'll get a lot of your water from these foods but not enough without supplementing a few jugs throughout the day. How much to drink? Well, I've never found a formula that works for me I mean if you drink 132ozs of water a day you'd be in the restroom all day. Aim for at least 64ozs a day. Water keeps you hydrated which will be important in aiding your weight loss. It also flushes toxins from your body, and makes you feel healthier and better.
SKIP CREAM OR MILK IN YOUR COFFEE OR TEA:
I love my coffee but have learnt to take it without cream or milk and only drink two cups a day now. I had to go "Cold Turkey" though and drinking it black took a month of adjustment. I believe cutting cream out of my coffee was the largest factor in my own weight loss in the initial months. Your mileage will vary but do skip the fat in your coffee and tea for best weight loss results.
Implementing any one of these changes into your life will aid your weight loss without an expensive diet plan. But be nice to yourself and body, and make them all part of your lifestyle change, and the pounds will shed.
