If you ever get invited to a wedding you will probably have to buy the happy couple a gift
. Although I seem to be invited to a lot of weddings I often let this happen to me and never learn. When you leave it to the last minute it adds to the pressure and in the end you don't know what to buy.
People these days are living with each other before they marry. There are many reasons for buying unusual wedding gifts it is something that people do to avoid buying things that the couple already have. Another reason why people buy unusual wedding gifts is to try and out do each other. They see it as a bit of a contest.
The last wedding that I was invited to was a medieval themed wedding. It looked like a strange type of event but the thing that sticks out in my mind was the way in which they helped the guests decide on gifts. They had lived together for a long time so asked for contributions to the honeymoon.
Rather than saying 'just contribute to the honeymoon', they made specific requests. After they decided what they wanted to do on their honeymoon they then found out how much each one cost. As an example, they knew they wanted to easy out at a certain restaurant so they work out the price and presented it as an option. They did this for a range of activities.
You would see the list of activities and decide what you want to get for them. You could buy them a nice meal out at a restaurant or if you wanted to buy something bigger you could pay for them to spend the day fishing. They have committed to taking a picture of them doing it and sending it through for the buyer to see.
It is obvious from the above that the wedding couple can assist the guests in buying unusual wedding gifts and the sole responsibility isn't down to the guest.
