By definition a Baby Boomer is anyone who was born January 1
, 1946 through December 31, 1964.As of January 1, 2011 it is estimated that there will be a minimum of ten thousand people who retire each and every day in the United States.This will continue to happen on a daily basis until December 31, 2029.This will be the same thing until December 31, 2029, which will mark the last day that Baby Boomers will reach the age of retirement.This is truly a lot of people who will be of legal retirement age at the same time.
This might not be important to you, but you should really think about.Baby Boomers have affected all areas of American life since they were born.As the old saying goes, there is power in numbers.This group of people is possibly the most influential and well known generation in the history of the United States.As Baby Boomers grew older, they were able to impact daily American life.For instance, when they were old enough to go to school, different school systems had to build new schools in order for them to attend school.So, it should not surprise anyone that the same thing has to be done for their retirement.
More retirement villages must be built in order to accommodate the large number of Baby Boomers.But, they should not be built like the ones that were constructed years ago.Senior citizen homes have really gone through a transformation over the years.They are not like the places where your grandparents sat in rocking chairs and waited until their lives were over.Many Baby Boomers might be of legal retirement age, but this does not mean that they will stop working.Due to the state of the economy, a lot of them are choosing to work past the age of retirement.For them, life does not stop, but gets better.
Baby Boomers have chosen to do more than sit on the porch and play checkers.Todays senior citizens are lively and want to do fun things.This means that retirement homes must have applicable floor plans and amenities that are appropriate for their lifestyles.Dont try to classify all seniors as a boring bunch of people who are only interested in doing activities that are normally associated with elderly people.Yes, you are still going to find seniors who want to play shuffleboard and make scrapbooks.But, the retirement villages of today understand that they have to also provide amenities such as tennis, swimming, yoga and even power walking.Baby Boomers are living longer and want to enjoy the rest of life participating in the same kinds of activities that younger people enjoy.
Eighty two million people will become legal retirement age within the next seventeen years.This does not necessarily mean that they are going to retire.However, it does mean that they are going to change society again.Not only are existing retirement villagesconcerned about supplying the amenities that seniors will love, the country is building more retirement villages for its elder citizens.
In conclusion, the first day of last year represented the start of another life marker for Baby Boomers.They have passed into another stage of life.They have longer lives than the generations that were ahead of them.Because of their size, this is just another way in which they will impact society.
