Removing the uncertainty of buying petrochemical pipe fittings
Removing the uncertainty of buying petrochemical pipe fittings
For companies involved in setting up pipe networks for hazardous or volatile gases and liquids, it is strongly advisable to seek expert advice from a reliable source before committing funds to pipe fittings, flanges, valves or other essential items. This is the only way to remove the uncertainty surrounding the purchase of these items.
Some pipe materials for example may be touted as strong and resistant but may in fact be subject to corrosive tendencies depending on what the pipes are used for and where they are located. Galvanised steel for example, which is strengthened by way of a chemical covering, can sometimes encourage galvanic corrosion whereby an electrochemical charge is generated leading to the slow destruction of the metal. Moreover, the protective covering can itself wear away in time.
Similarly, certain types of steel may not be sufficiently strong to withstand corrosive elements both inside and outside the pipe network. Salt water for example can easily eat into small areas along the pipework (this corrosion is known as pitting'). On the other hand, some companies will be worried about using more recently created stainless steel alloys such as duplex and super duplex, believing that these might not be as durable or heat resistant as the more well-established super austenite steel alloy, which contains molybdenum for added strength. This uncertainty surrounding duplex and super duplex steels can sometimes be encouraged owing to the fact that the former are cheaper than super austenite steel and do not need to be supplied with pipe walling that is as thick as super austenite pipes.
Uncertainty in purchasing pipe fittings and pipe flanges is also prevalent owing to different international connection measurements. At ChemiPetro we are able to offer expert advice on the most suitable type of pipe fittings for any network, and we also offer a 24-hour emergency after-sales hotline.
