These tend to be numerous and vary depended on you and your values. But there are some things that one should never allow in a relationship as they tend to demean you and make you feel bad about being you. Anything that makes you feel like a lesser person is a no go in any relationship. Here are a few reasons to break up.
1. Abuse in any form is a no, no. Many of us know that physical abuse is absolutely prohibited and would be out of the door should anyone as much as lay a hand on us. But we tend to excuse emotional abuse where our partner constantly berates us and calls us shameful things. If you live with constant put-downs on how stupid or ugly or fat or foolish or etc you are, then with time this will begin to sink into your subconscious and you will begin to exhibit what they call you. There is power in the spoken word, don't let anyone tell you differently, and if you allow someone to constantly poison you then sooner or later you will begin to exhibits symptoms of this poisoning. This is of course not the same as when you have a fight and say some hurtful words but it's more of a constant reference of you in derogatory words as though that was your identity. Break it off before you lose all your self esteem
2. Manipulation so that you often don't like what you are doing or becoming. We all do a little manipulation where we do something for our partner to ensure that we get a certain result but when your partner somehow manages to get you to do things that you are ashamed off or that you feel coerced into doing then this is a red flag. If your partner makes you feel that you have to do certain things that violate your conscious as a sign of your love for them then you need to start walking before you become a robot under their command.
3. Infidelity in these days of nasty bugs is a reason to break up especially if they are a serial cheater. Cheating is a violation of trust regardless of what reasons your partner gives and it's a sign that your partner really does not value you over the short term pleasures that the cheating gives them. If they are addicted to this destructive behavior then you should both seek professional help if you want your relationship to survive. If you cannot trust them to be faithful to you, how can you trust them to use protection every time they cheat? Don't give yourself room to excuse this behavior or you will live on Regret Street when the expected happens and one of those bugs comes home to stay. However modern we get very few of us are not hurt by infidelity. It hurts our self esteem as we begin to ask ourselves....am I not worthy of having a faithful partner?
4. Self loathing behavior where they do things to hurt themselves. Be real, you cannot save them! The movies keep feeding us the line that romantic love can conquer anything but the sad reality is that if your partner does not want to change then all the loving in the world will not do it. The usual outcome is that they will take you down with them. As they sink so do you. Leave before you become the 2nd victim of their behavior.
5. Destructive and addictive habits that make them a stranger to you when they are under the influence. Again romantic love is not enough unless you want to waste years in co-addiction with them.
6. Criminal habits that make them an enemy of the public. Obviously you don't want a partner whose occupation makes them a constant guest of the country's prisons unless that's what you always dream' t of doing with your life.
Break ups are difficult but some situations cannot be won and if you want to stay sane and sober then you should avoid romantic liaisons with people exhibiting certain types of behavior. But if despite your better judgement you are still attracted to Mr or Ms disfunctional then try and undersatnd the reasons for your attraction.
