Rarely Recognized Baby Information

You already know that most of a baby's day centers on his sleeping

, relieving himself and his feeding habits. But do you know why babies move the way they do? Do you understand how babies develop? Most of us don't worry about the minutiae of infant development. Other parents decide to learn everything they can about the way their child grows and develops as it gets older.

Every day is a surprise when you have a baby! Believe it or not the things you think you know about babies might be completely false! This article will teach you a few things about babies that you probably do not already know.

Light is an early sensitivity for babiesit starts happening in utero. There are millions of fibers and nerves that make up your eyes. A lot of coordination goes into making sure your eyes work the way they are supposed to. Babies usually have working eyes by the end of the first trimester or very beginning of the second trimester. By the time your baby has spent six months growing in your womb, he or she will already be sensitive to light. Another interesting fact about babies: most Caucasian babies will not show their "true" eye color until a few months after they are born. Most Caucasian babies are born with eyes that are blue and that change later on. Try not to get too attached to those bright blue eyes! They might not stay that way! It is common knowledge that babies can hear while they are still inside of their mothers. Many studies have been done to prove that sounds can carry through a mother's body and that a baby can react strongly to the sounds he hears. It does not matter when the baby is born, his ears are still very sensitive to high decibel levels of sound while he is in the womb. A fetus's ears are impressionable and sensitive. Doctors recommend that, while women are pregnant that they keep their music, televisions, etc below the level of a modern vacuum cleaner. The goal is to keep the noise down as much as possible but loud enough that you can still hear it; avoiding construction areas and places with heavy traffic sounds when you leave the house is also a good idea.

Even though babies can make a wailing sound as soon as they are born, the presence of actual tears does not usually occur until the baby is at least two or three weeks old. A person creates tears out of hormones that are produced when the person feels stress. This is one of the reasons people cry when they are stressedthe tears release the hormones which calms the body down. Babies do not produce these hormones before birth. Sometimes real tears take a few weeks to show up because it takes the baby a while to begin producing the stress hormone. Still other babies can take up to a few months to show signs of actual tears (remember, every baby is different).

There are all sorts of interesting facts about babies that are not well known. You would think the opposite would be true since so many adults like to do research when they don't know something and take so much pride in their knowledge.

You will feel better about your parenting skills if you learn everything you can about babies. Good luck!
