Pros and Cons of Buying Used Infant Swings

You may already have decided on buying an infant swing but you're not sure if you are ready to shell out a sizeable amount of money for the furniture

. The idea of buying a second hand or used unit comes into view. It may seem like a logical idea considering that your child will only be able to use it for a couple of months. However, you'll soon find out that the price of a used one is almost the same as the cheapest brand new model and this will make you all the more confused with your final choice. As good second hand infant swings may be limited, weighing things will be an important task to take to enable you to make the right decision regarding your purchase.

The Pros

It cannot be undermined that your baby will only be using the swing for a short time. Compared to other furniture which can be used by baby beyond her infant years, infant swings have limitations in terms of capacity. Also, the cheaper ones have a smaller capacity than the more expensive ones. So given this, it may really sound better to just buy a heavy duty second hand unit than to buy a cheap brand new model which your baby may not be able to use for long.

The Cons

On the other hand, most if not all second hand units don't come with warranty. Therefore, after your purchase, you will be on your own with no guarantee of consumer protection whatsoever. Sanitation will also be compromised when buying a second hand baby product. You'll never know what sort of allergy or skin irritation your baby might incur upon using the swing. More importantly, the safety of your child is also at stake. Since the unit was already used, depending on how old it already is, there's no telling when any of its components might break.

When your budget is low and resources are limited, you need to be realistic with your purchases especially when it comes to infant accessories like infant swings. That you should be able to get your money's worth is already a given. But comparing a cheap model to a good second hand unit may be confusing. Given this, you must be able to weigh things properly and still consider what is available to you. If you do decide to buy a used swing, inspect the unit for signs of wear and tear and also for history of skin conditions of the previous owner. The unit must at least come from a smoke-free and pet-free environment to ensure that no health hazard will come to your baby.
