Pregnancy And Maternity Advice Guide
If at this stage you know that you are pregnant
, you are more than likely looking for information on pregnancy and maternity advice. The most important fact for you to ensure is that your general fitness and health is at an optimum level. This will make your life easier during the next nine months and ensure the birth of a healthy baby.
The term is split into three trimesters. During the embryonic stage which starts at five weeks, the spinal cord, brain and the nerves will be forming. The heart will be formed from a tube on the front of the embryo. Facial characteristics start forming. The eyes and the ears begin to form and link to the brain.
The joining of tissue will begin the formation of the forehead, the nose, the cheeks, the jaw and the lips. Nasal passages, a mouth as well as the tongue with taste buds will form. The arms and the legs start taking shape. At this point a vagina or penis will start however the sex will not be identifiable. As the muscles start developing, there will be movement, but you will be unaware of this.
The changes you will undergo will be an expanded waistline. Frequent urination; constipation and heartburn may start. Other changes can include lightheadedness, changes in your skin, vaginal changes and swollen or tender breasts.
In the second trimester the eyes may open however sight is not possible. The baby will be able to hear your heartbeat, but no external sounds. There will be constant movement by the fetus, but you will only become aware of this by the 20th week. If you wish to know the sex of the baby, an ultrasound during the latter part of this trimester will make it possible.
Your body experiences during this trimester will include swelling of the feet, of the hands and of the ankles. You may start suffering with severe backache and your hips and pelvis may be painful too. The changes in your skin may cause dark patches on your face.
The third trimester is from week 27 to the end. At this stage the baby will be able to hear your voice and will often respond to sounds by movement. The eyes will be aware of bright light, but they will not be able to see much. By the end of this trimester the nails would have grown on the fingers and toes. The final developing organ is the lungs. The waxy white substance and the fine hair that was covering the body during the previous trimester will fall off. The baby will move in the sac and settle into a head-down position in the uterus. The head will be placed on the pubic bone of the mother.
All the symptoms, pain and discomfort that you endured during the previous trimester may well worsen during this trimester. Sleep will elude you as you will not be able to find a comfortable position. Do not expect as much movement from the baby as previously. He or she would have grown to full term and will not have much space to move around in.
