There used to be few options for someone who was dissatisfied with the appearance of their teeth
. If they were chipped or discolored or had other problems that caused them to purse their lips tightly together whenever a smile was required, an individual was just forced to live with it. Then came dentures, which were only possible after removing the teeth that were there, which was certainly an extraordinary measure for teeth that may not have been functionally missing anything. Now, however, there are porcelain veneers. These applications can restore a person's shining smile, are far less invasive than previous methods, and they are comparatively inexpensive.

Just call around to a few local dentists and ask them if they offer the applications and make an appointment with one you feel comfortable with. Make sure you choose someone who has a great deal of experience with the system as part of their regular practice.
After choosing your dentist, you'll set up an initial consultation and then a second appointment where the dentist will prepare your teeth for the porcelain veneers. This preparation will include removing some of the enamel from the teeth you wish to have covered. This has the same effect as taking sandpaper to a car before you apply paint. It scuffs up the surface to give the bonding application something to grip. You may have noticed that the outer surface of your teeth isn't the best place to build up a lot of traction. Once this enamel has been removed, the dentist will form a mold of your teeth, from which the applications will be created to fit your mouth. You could be fitted with a temporary set at this time to protect your teeth in the meantime.
Finally, the time will come to go in and have your new porcelain veneers attached to your teeth. The dentist will place them in your mouth first to make sure they are a comfortable fit. At this time, you may notice some discomfort that is not immediately apparent to the dentist so it's important to say what's on your mind. Once they have been sealed in place, reversing the process won't be easy. It is far better to postpone the implants to another time than to accept veneers you won't be satisfied with. If you are satisfied, however, the dentist will go ahead and bond them to your teeth and you'll be all set.
