Plastic surgery is something that more and more people turn to in order to look youthful and fit
. Individuals as young as sixteen years old or even younger may go to a surgeon and have some surgery done to them with their parents' consent. Most procedures, in general, are safe but may have risks for random individuals as well as those who have underlying conditions. Older people are usually those who want to have some form of cosmetic procedure done for them but they can also be more prone to risks and complications than younger ones.
Underlying Conditions
There are many different underlying conditions that can be risky for an older person who wishes to undergo plastic surgery. These conditions have something to do with the heart, lungs and other organs which may fail when the body feels that the stress of the operation is too much for it. Doctors usually ask for their patients' medical records and history as well as request that they undergo testing to establish if they are suitable for any form of major or minor operations. Despite this, some older, and even younger individuals, succumb to risks during the operation due to bodily reactions to medication and stress which may manifest during the procedure itself.
Reactions
Blood loss is one of the greatest risks in any major procedure. A person's risk of blood loss can be established with several tests but there are instances when it just happens to individuals who are not prone to it. Plastic surgery can also carry the risk of suffering from low blood pressure. A sudden drop in blood pressure is a cause of alarm and can be deadly. Blood clots can also form directly after surgery. These are dangerous when they form internally and can cause a stroke and maybe even a fatality.
Anesthesia is another factor that can affect older persons who wish to have some form of cosmetic operation. This can drastically affect the heart, blood pressure and breathing. Some people are also allergic to it or any other pain relieving medicine that the surgeon might use during or after the operation. Since older people usually have heart diseases and conditions that affect breathing and the circulatory system, reactions to medication should be monitored when taking them.
