Weddings are those occasions that are both joyous and tear jerking at the same time. It brings family and friends together, heal old wounds as well as mark the beginning for two near and dear to everyone in attendance. Weddings are one of the few occasions that prompt people to mark their calendar quickly. The anticipation level climbs for all as the day approaches. For the event to come off like clockwork, takes great planning and coordinating. You may hit a few speed bumps along the way but good planning will take you over those aberrations successfully.
It starts with a plan
If the plan is well thought out the end result of the plan will be a success. To plan a successful wedding it requires a plan. Once the initial excitement of getting married wanes a bit, it is time to get out your pad and pencil and begin formulating your wedding plans. Your basic wedding list will include something like: the desired date, location, time, church or no church, guest list, reception, honeymoon and how the heck will we pay for it. Keeping detailed notes regarding what you do plan wise will keep your plans on track and make sure no detail is left out.
It is all in the details
Once your basic plan is in place, it is time to get into the details. The first three are pretty straight forward and do not require much discussion. As for the question of church or no church. My grandmother always said even if you do not go to church, everyone should marry in the church and when you die, be buried from the church. I'm not sure she had a rule for those that attend Temple. Regarding the guest list, this could be tricky and you may find yourself generating at least two. The first list will be the absolutely have to invite list and the second will be the ones we would like to invite list. The reception will require lots of planning - location, menu, entertainment, photographer, seating, centerpieces and who is in charge of making sure everyone leaves on time so you do not get charged for another hour of hall rental. For the honeymoon - even if it is a weekend away, there will be reservations of some kind, travel tickets or a Rand McNally map, alternate transportation, packing and coordinating leaving the reception.
The Big Day
The planning is complete or at least done and it is now time for the show to go begin. This is where the proof is in the pudding. All the pieces must come together for the wedding to go off without a hitch, except for the one that takes place between the newlyweds. If there is a wedding coordinator, they will direct the flow of the event. If there is no wedding coordinator the event will run on auto pilot. The events will unfold and guests will follow along.
Let's party!
Once the wedding ceremony is complete, it is time for the party to begin. The wedding is the formal celebration of the happy couple and the reception and any parties to follow are the fun celebration of the happy couple. This part of the wedding will be fun and a success if those with grudges leave them at the door. The day is about the newly marrieds' and not the battle field for those with other agendas. Good food, good drink and good guests will help create a day the newlyweds can look back on in years to come and smile.
