Oprah In Tears...vows Never To Diet Again
The reason Oprah has never successfully lost weight
, and kept it off, is simple. All the diets she has used over the years are deprivation diets, which don't work, and we have seen the results. Some years, she has been very thin. Other years, she has been so-so
and sometimes, she has been a fattie. Up & down, yo-yoing, whatever you want to call it.
Sometimes, she exercises; at other times, she does nothing. All the different routines she has tried have taken a toll on her, both physically and mentally. That happens when you have a new guru all the time, and very rarely does it ever produce results.
Oprah's guru of the moment is a woman called Geneen Roth, author of a New York Times bestseller called, "Women, Food and God." This book has been embraced by women across the globe (according to news reports).
Roth's two most important "breakthroughs" (?) are thus:
1) Do not diet. Dieting leads to self hatred and self loathing...making you feel crazy about yourself.
2) Your relationship with food...rather than being the curse and rather than being the thing you want to get rid of ...is itself the doorway to the life you most want.
And then Oprah adds, "Your weight is your invitation to your best life."
Wow, man...that's heavy...like the horseradish sour cream mashed potatoes, with extra butter, that Oprah loves.
Is this nonsense going to make you feel good? Maybe for a few days, until you get a glimpse of yourself in a full length mirror. I know I'm going to get some fettucine alfredo and eat it naked in front of the mirror, while I trip on out, to find my best life. Or not.
I have a friend who is a personal trainer, with a number of wealthy clients. I asked him if any of those clients are actually in good shape. He laughed, thought about it for a minute and then said, "Two. Two out of the 30 I'm training, at the moment."
I was astonished. He laughed and said, "Doc...they only want to feel like they're training, not actually train. They have huge egos and they want to be in charge...with only those couple of exceptions. So I charge them a very hefty fee, for them to tell me how they want to do things. And as a result, they never make make any real progress ...which is what they want...to keep on doing whatever they have been doing."
Which is what Oprah is talking about, here. "I love my fat self!"
But you CAN make healthy changes in your life. I did it and I'm not alone. There are thousands and thousands of people, just like me...just like you...in all walks of life...who have lost weight and have not needed a new guru every week, to lead them to the promised land.
Being healthy is really a very simple equation. Put down the junk food and get off the couch. Your body was designed to move, not sit on a couch.
I'll guarantee you this: Nobody ever lost a pound listening and blubbering with Oprah. Take that hour and put it to good use, like in exercise. Then check the results in 3 months. That should put a smile on your face.
