. Wells has the star-power and performances, but crafts a predictable story with story points that audience members can forecast from the start. As compelling as the actors may be, theyll always fall flat without a solid and interesting story backing them up.

What a year Ben Affleck is having. Rising from a rather grisly early 2000s (remember Gigli, Daredevil and Paycheck? Better yet, dont), Affleck is on the road to establishing himself once again as one of the foremost talents in Hollywood. The Town still stands as one of the strongest films of the year, besting Afflecks previous strong directing outing with Gone Baby Gone. His performance in the former film is also excellent as well.

Corporate downsizing is something that we have lately become much too familiar with. Many people are out of work; this includes people who have been at a corporation for years. For them, it is especially difficult as age becomes a prohibitive factor in the job search. John Wells (E.R.) tackles this painful and frustrating subject with honesty and heart in his feature directorial debut, The Company Men.

The Company Men introduces us to Bobby Walker (Ben Affleck), a confident, successful businessman in his late thirties. Bobby has everything a man could ever want. He is living the American dream that is to say, until he is laid off and his life is taken away. After losing his job, his wife Maggie (Rosemarie DeWitt) and teenage son (Anthony OLeary) try to help. They attempt to convince him to reassess their life, but Bobby has a hard time letting go. So too do Bobbys former boss Gene McClary (Tommy Lee Jones) and co-worker Phil Woodward (Chris Cooper), both of whom find themselves in the same unfortunate situation.
