One Week Before Your Wedding: A Final Checklist
One Week Before Your Wedding: A Final Checklist
It's a week before your wedding. What do you do? Rein in that panic and take a deep breath. Now is the time to enlist the help of your friends and family. The last week (or so) before your wedding can be a strenuous time for everyone. But having a final checklist can help make sure that you don't miss any small details before your big day!
Early in the week, make sure to pack any bags for your honeymoon. You will be very busy and will not be able to attend to this later on. Start to prepare a wedding emergency kit, including items such as toiletries, clear nail polish, white thread and sewing needles, chalk for smudges on the dress, keys, kleenex and aspirin.
On the same theme, call and check with travel arrangements and make sure that everything is all set, and get your travel documents in order. You don't want to forget anything while on the trip.
The caterer will require a final head count in order to provide food for your guests. Instead of assuming the people who have not yet answered are not coming, have someone contact them to make sure. You may also want to ask the caterer if you have an option to prepare extra meals above what you ordered. Assign a job to someone to call up the guests that are coming into town and seeing which hotel they are staying at.
Arrange for you and the bridal party to go and try on the dresses and tuxedos, to make sure that any weight that anyone had gained or lost will not affect the way any of the dresses look.
It is a good idea to set aside a few hundred dollars for just in case purposes. Whether it is a switch in shoes or an extra salon charge for styling long hair, the extra money can make things go a bit more smoothly.
You will also need to check with your DJ or band members, photographer and transportation service to go over the expectations for the day, in addition to the schedule. If there is a balance owed for any of these services, now would be the time to start making payments on these.
If you're not able to pay in full right away, let the service providers know that they will be paid in full on the wedding day, and decide who will be delivering the payment. Make sure to ask of what kind of payment they accept, so you can make up separate payment envelopes for each person.
As the rehearsal dinner is typically the day before the wedding, call up the venue to confirm the date and time of the dinner, along with how many people are going to attend. If you are planning on thanking your family, anybody who has helped out, service providers or friends, you should take the time earlier in the week to write out whom you would like to thank, and what you would like to say. The last thing you want to do is leave someone out of your speech.
This is normally the time where you practice how the ceremony is going to go and how your vows are going to be. This also gives you a chance to start feeling comfortable standing in front of the altar. The rehearsal dinner is going to be the time when you hand out the bridal party gifts. Making sure beforehand that these are boxed or wrapped up and ready to go (even possibly already packed into the car) is the best idea.
Call up your florist and schedule your drop-off times for the flowers. Also, let the florist know of where the flowers will be going and any parking information. This might be a small factor that is over looked, and it helps to have this crossed off the list.
Get your manicure and pedicures done the day before the rehearsal or on the day of the rehearsal, as you most likely will not have time on your wedding day.
Have one of your attendants pick up the tuxedos for the wedding. Knowing that everything is pulling together for the big day will make you feel better and a little bit more relaxed. Take time to drop off your centerpieces, guest book and favors to the venue where the reception is going to be held, so the attendants can get those set up and ready for the guests. If you have a wedding planner, they may take care of many of these tasks for you.
Make sure to put aside some "you" time. Even if it doesn't seem to make much sense to sit back and relax for a bit, what with all the things that need to be done and considering what day it is going to be, you don't want to have a bridal meltdown. Double-check your list, remember to breathe, and everything will be okay!
