In May 2006, Wook Kundor of Malaysia married Muhamad Noor Che Musa
. Doesn't sound like anything out of the ordinary except Kundor was one hundred and four years old while Musa was only thirty three. It was at that time believed to be the largest marriage age gap in history.
Now Kundor is looking for husband number twenty three. She fears her current husband is on the prowl for a younger woman (which of course leaves him a lot of latitude).
People would look at the union between Kundor and Musa and think there has to be more sinister motives at play. They would figure rightly or wrongly that Musa is after her money (she has none) or that it's some kind of devious ploy for whatever reason.
Or they would just write it off to the fact that he could be a couple of fries short of a happy meal. Sure love may overcome all but in regards to this situation it may call out sick.
As a young man you may have no desire to be with a women who can probably call your great grandmother a young lady. However the age gap does not have to be anywhere near seventy years for people to balk. A woman who is only seven to ten years older than the man she is with can raise a few eyebrows or trigger outright scorn.
If the gap is any higher look out. That remains unacceptable in many parts of our society. The same cannot really be said when that age difference applies to an older man and younger women. There still may be some hue and cry but nowhere near that of the mature women younger man relationship.
The union between Kundor and Musa is no doubt at the end of the spectrum. The far end. Yet many women who have decided to be in a relationship with a young man are still experiencing the full weigh of society's double standard.
