The worlds fattest Wiener dog is Obie, a dachshund weighing 70 pounds, who is going to be on the TV show The Biggest Loser. It is just as you can imagine his skin and overall proportions of his trunk have expanded so much that Obie's long legs are dwarfed and appear incapable of supporting the mass of his body even while being stationary, let alone in movement. In fact, poor Obie appears more like a seal than a smart canine. Obie acquired all this weight mostly because of his overindulgent earlier owners, who loved him too much. But all is not bad for this obese sweetheart thanks to its loving present owners who are looking to get him back in shape.
Will Obie be Able to Reach His Optimum Weight?
Pet dogs are known to be agile and playful. Although they are expected to be treated well by their loving owners, they are not thought of as being obese in their physical proportions. Yet there is one sad case of a cute canine that cannot dream of fetching the stick or chasing a scent trail.
Diet Plan and Exercising on the Schedule
Obie is already on a diet thanks to his enthusiastic owners who want to bring him back to normalcy and make him the biggest canine weight loser. Regular vet checks are being conducted as are blood checks, treadmill work, and swim therapy. Surgical treatment of the liposuction kind may be required to remove the excess skin, once he loses some weight.
As in humans, liposuction is only the final step in the treatment and is meant to improve his appearance and not to bring his weight down. Reputable plastic surgeon Spero J. Theodorou met with the current owners and assured he would be available to advise a veterinary plastic surgeon in case loose skin becomes an issue after Obies weight loss.
