Make Your Own Custom Cookie Wedding Favors
Cookies have become very popular as wedding favors in the last few years and in many respects have taken over from cupcakes as the bride's favourite choice. They are very easy to customize to your wedding style and theme and best of all guests love edible favors!
The concept of giving wedding favors goes back many centuries and were traditionally almonds or sugar cubes in small decorative boxes. These days however, brides have a realm of choice and cookies provide a nice alternative to almonds, chocolates or mints.
Wedding cookies can be made in just about shape and iced with designs and colors to suit your wedding perfectly. Usually they are vanilla or shortbread style, iced to suit your wedding. However, with these custom cookies often costing in excess of $3 each, many brides may want to look at making their own versions to save money.
It is easier than you may think to create your own cookies favors and you do not need to produce the pretty iced versions either. Consider making cookies according to your own favourite flavours and giving your guests a little bag or box of cookies in different flavours. If you are not the best cook when it comes to baking then buy some ready to roll cookie dough from the grocery store and some shaped cutters to suit your wedding.
If you want to create iced versions that is not too difficult either. Once your cookies have been baked and cooled, you can ice around the edge of your cookie with your choice of colored icing in a pipe bag. Remember if your design uses different colors you will need to ice around each segment in the corresponding color. Once your outlines are in place you can then simply fill in with icing.
Bakery and cook stores have a range of other decorations you can add such as flowers, hearts, and themed shapes. You will also find a wide range of cookie cutters, icing in different colors and effects such as pearlized and metallic and also other options like chocolate.
Have a practice run first to perfect the technique of icing cookies before you attempt to do hundreds of them and when you come to bake them for real do add in extra's for mistakes and taste testing! If you do have a lot of cookies to make and ice then enlist the help of your attendants or mom and get a production line going so you can get them rolled out, cut, baked and iced in the fastest possible time.
Once your cookies are ready to package then consider putting them in clear cellophane bags to showcase all your hard work and tie with some pretty ribbon. You can also personalize your cookies or ice your guests names on them and use them as place cards.
