Loss Of Weight Can Result In Smellier Breath.
People who are trying to slim down a little bit
, immediately jump to a very low carbohydrate diet. However, as dieters shed the unwanted pounds, many welcome halitosis into their lives.
Low carbohydrate diets work by reducing the amount of carbohydrates consumed, which allows the body to burn already stored fat instead of the carbohydrates. While the body burns the fat to fuel, chemicals called ketones, are produced. Ketones released in the breath and urine may result in halitosis. The types of food ingested also play a huge role in bad having breath. "Most cases of bad breath originate from the breakdown of food particles that produce sulfur compounds, and from bacteria on the gums and tongue," says Academy of General Dentistry spokesperson Bruce DeGinder, DDS, MAGD. "High-protein foods can produce more sulfur compounds, especially overnight on the surface of the tongue when saliva production is diminished."
Tips to overcome the halitosis: 1. Drink plenty of water to wash away any germs. Drinking water throughout the day cleanses the teeth of excess bacteria and food debris, and it dilutes the concentration of ketones. Drinking water will rinse away the odor-causing particles, to help you keep fresh breath throughout the whole day.
2. Chew sugarless gum with xylitol. Sugar-free gum with xylitol can help with prevention of cavities. Chewing sugarless gum after every meal will keep the bad breath away because of the saliva increase that neutralizes acid production. Chewing parsley can also have the same affect because it also increases saliva production.
3. Keep a toothbrush with you at all time and brush after single every meal. In order to help keeping your mouth healthy and prevent from the appearing of odors, brushing and flossing twice daily is recommended. An AGD survey found that 75% of people eat at the office but only 15% of them brush after eating. Cleaning the tongue with a toothbrush or a tongue scraper after meals can also get rid of the odors.
If the halitosis continues, a general dentist or even a doctor can help with determining the source of the odor. Halitosis can sometimes have more serious causes than average. " Ketone breath is also used to describe a fruity smell on the breath that can be an indication that a person may have diabetes," says Dr. DeGinder. "This can originate when the body is breaking down fat particles because there is not sufficient glucose present as fuel for energy."
