Your mind can help you in those efforts; more than you might think. In a study done by Harvard Researchers 84 hotel workers were placed in two different groups; 1. An informed group and the other a controlled group, the informed group were told that their job was exercise and how good it was for their health, they were also told exercise need not be painful or hard to be good for their health. They were given specific details of the calories they were burning for each specific task they undertook and this was also written on a sheet, the control group was told everything but how their work was good exercise for them. The study was taken over 4 weeks and in that time the participants did nothing different, they all worked the same hours, they did no extra exercise outside of work and did not change eating, drinking or smoking habits, but they did perceive to have been doing more exercise. At the end of the study participants in the informed group lost an average of 2 pounds, lowered their blood pressure, BMI and their hip to waist ratio. So what does this study show? That by changing our mindset and strongly believing that the activities we engage in on a daily basis are improving our bodies and we are losing weight then our results will increase drastically too. So how do we go about using this one little weird trick to lose weight? By writing down all the activities we do during the day, and acknowledging that in each movement we are actually exercising. Put this up on the fridge or somewhere you can see it often and remind yourself that it is exercise and good for your health, looking at it often can help keep you motivated and believing.
