I have been working in the personal training industry for quite some time now and
it has been both a harrowing experience and a very promising experience. Harrowing in the fact that I see a lot of people doing the same stuff day in and day out like there are these rules you have to live by to lose weight. Most often than not, these rules are complete bogus and have no scientific backing. That is the reason for this article and why I am going to expose these 2 biggest myths right away.
Myth 1: You can spot reduce. This is absolute garbage. I dont know where this myth got its origin from, but I hope one day it goes back to that place. You cant spot reduce no matter what. You wont get a six pack or a lean stomach by doing 1,000 crunches everyday and you wont get rid of flabby arms by doing triceps press downs either. The body will break down the fat from the entire body. Usually for men the last place to go is the trunk and for women it is the thighs.
Myth 2: You have to do cardio to lose weight. This is another bogus myth that has no truth. For example, I just lost 23 pounds for summer and I did barely any cardio at all. Sometimes, depending on the amount of calories you take in, cardio could be detrimental to your overall program. Reason being because it could eat away at your muscle as opposed to your body fat stores. This is dependent on many factors.
These are just 2 of the biggest myths I see on a daily basis. However, there will be more myth busting to come your way.
