During your surgery, your surgeon will use a laparoscopic technique called Lap band. It is a device which consist of a silicone ring or band and fits around the upper portion of the stomach to make some incisions.
How does Lap Band work?
It is extended with saline solution inside your skin, due to which this band becomes tighter around the upper portion of your stomach and make a small stomach pouch. While eating something, the pouch fills up very quickly as a less physical space is there. Food takes some time to move from the new pouch to the rest of the stomach. Therefore, you will feel full faster and eat less.

The specialist will look for your Body Mass Index (BMI) among all items. If your BMI is between 26 and 29 then you are considered to be overweight. People with a BMI of 30 or higher are said to be obese which means they can be at risk for health problems. Those with a BMI of 40 or more are considered to have morbid or severe obesity and might be a applicable for surgery. Some people may also go with this surgery who find their BMI in between 35 and 40.
Features of the LAP-BAND
The best feature of this band is that it is adjustable. Your surgeon will insert a thin needle into the access port positioned under the skin and either add more saline to tighten the band or debit liquid to loosen the band which depends on your response to the surgery. If you find the band so restricted that it will be loosened.
