Is Pre-Wedding Photography for you?

There is nothing uncommon or usual about a women being nervous when being photographed. I've never been the fashion model type who thrived when being blinded by the flash of cameras. That being said, one of my most prized possessions is my wedding photographs. Hardly a week will go by without me pulling them out and enjoying them. It may seem strange that the very same person who avoids camera as if they carry a deadly strain of bacteria is so dazzled by a beautiful leather Queensbury album with over a hundred precious moments caught and preserved inside. It may seem to you like a miracle that I was able to be so calm and tranquil when taking my wedding pictures, but I knew the secret that allowed me to enjoy my wedding without any of those paralyzing nerves.

Essentially there are two major reasons why I was able to keep my composure while the photographers clicked away. For those of you who suffer from severe camera fright syndrome as I do, you may find this really helpful.

The first thing I did was face my fears before the wedding day. That's right, good old fashion practice. You've heard the saying: "Practice makes perfect." Well in my case it is more like: "Practice allows you to get over your nerves." There really is an art to taking good pictures. It's more than just standing there and smiling. Taking out some time before my wedding allowed me to get a chance to really familiarize myself with the whole photography process. I learned how to bring my emotions and feelings to life, and most importantly, I learned how to not lose my cool. Besides, it can actually be a little fun. You get to pretend that you have model or celebrity status.

The second thing that really helped me was hiring a competent photographer. I'm sure you remember how awkward your high school year book pictures where because the photographer would make you sit and cock your head in all sorts of weird angles. A good photographer will know how to keep you calm; will know how to complement your strong points; will know how to truly capture those "Kodak" moments.

A pre wedding photography session is also a great opportunity to get familiar with your photographer and learn how he or she likes to work. It's important to understand that not all photographers are created equally. Learning your photographer's style will allow you to work more smoothly together. On the flip side, your photographer will get to know you. The photographer will get familiar with what kind of picture you are looking for, what poses you are familiar with, etc.

When your wedding day comes, you will be half way through the ceremony before you realized that you completely forgot to be nervous about being photographed. When the ceremony is over and you return from your honeymoon, you will get a chance to sit down and look at your pictures. You will be amazed just how beautiful you are.
