Is Liposuction Only A 'last Resort' For Weight Loss?
Debates on how liposuction should be viewed in the world of losing inches and grams of fat has long been heatedly debated
. Many people assume that those who opt for this surgery are either desperate or lazy or both! The assumption is if diet and exercise and any other form of crash diet doesn't work then it is time to resort to liposuction.
Also, there is a common misconception that those who consider this procedure simply do not want to put effort into looking and feeling better but only want a quick-fix that will solve their weight problems with hardly any personal effort. This second misconception is certainly false and the first assumption is not entirely correct although it is more correct than the second. In reality, liposuction is an option for everyone who wants to look and feel better and find that there are certain small pockets of fat that do not seem to want to go away by other means of weight loss.
Firstly, liposuction is most definitely not meant to be a quick-fix for someone's weight loss difficulties. It is expensive and there are some risks associated with it just like any other surgery. The ideal candidate for a lipoplastic procedure is already living a healthy lifestyle which includes regular exercise and a healthy diet.
The ideal patient is also already within about five to ten pounds of their ideal weight. This is the healthiest way to be as most surgeons have a serious limit on how much fat they are willing to remove in one sitting. The more fat that is removed, the more risks there are to the healing
process after surgery.
Consequently, it is unfair to view those who opt for this cosmetic surgery as lazy or lacking in motivation to live a healthy lifestyle and take care of themselves. More than likely these patients have simply found some very stubborn pockets of fat that cannot be removed by the basic healthy diet and exercise routine.
Liposuction may not be viewed as a complete last resort but considering the fact that preferred patients are those who are already living a healthy lifestyle, it is not the first choice either. Surgery is never a substitute for healthy living, it is merely a catalyst and/or a method of adding motivation to stay healthy. Approaching liposuction in this way will make the process easier and will make the results
much more satisfying for the patient and all those involved.
