Catering is often a high cost for weddings and in these tough times
, many people are beginning to wonder if it's worth it.
With weddings, you certainly very often get what you pay for. This means if you pay five dollars a plate for a turkey log and some strawberries, chances are you won't be very happy with the results. On the other hand if you pay an exorbitant sum for some of the best food in the world, you will probably be very satisfied. Of course, some of us don't have lots of money to spend on wedding catering and yet we still want something wonderful for our weddings.
Catering is simply lovely but in these rough economic times it's hard to justify a large sum of money for food we're not sure everyone will like. Sometimes, couples will simply have dancing at their reception and have something like a dessert buffet or some small hors d'ouevres. Light snacks, especially during a summer wedding, are definitely a great idea as opposed to a heavy and rich dinner.
Serving light snacks or sweet little desserts can be a cost-effective alternative to a fully catered dinner if you are hosting a casual reception where you hope to simply visit with friends and perhaps dance and party a bit. Backyard weddings, outdoor beach events or other more casual venues can be a terrific place for small snacks instead of a full dinner.
If you are hosting a more elegant event, you might want to consider having a dinner catered. Sit-down dinners can certainly add to the formality of an event and very often catering companies create beautiful and wonderful dishes to make your reception unique and wonderful.
When looking for a catering company that is not as expensive as others, you may want to look into smaller cities and towns. Seattle, San Francisco and other large cities have wonderful caterers but they are probably much more expensive than wedding catering companies in Spokane or other smaller cities in your area. Try to find a smaller company, preferably a new company just getting on its feet. These companies will certainly be willing to work with you on a manageable price that works for your budget.
Overall, catering a wedding is certainly wonderful and may be worth the price if you have had high hopes for an incredible meal at your wedding. Be sure to plan out your budget and see if you can manage a caterer. If you have the place in your budget and can find a caterer that satisfies you, then catering is certainly a great idea!
