Incorporate Some Global Significance To Your Next Excursion - Visit World Heritage Sites In Africa

Traveling the world can be so exciting. There are so many amazing places to see that reflect the culture, the natural beauty, and the history behind an area, and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization realized this. They created a special distinction to places like this all over the world. Called World Heritage Sites, they are sites that hold outstanding importance to humanity, either through cultural or natural means. In order to travel to these sites, you will need a passport. There are easy ways to get a pasport expedited in time to meet your trip.

Getting a passport can be scary with so many rules and regulations but with online passport agencies readily available for you, all the trouble has been taken out of the process. If you have had your passport stolen or if it is misplaced, even if you need American passport extra pages, this can all be handled quickly and easily by contacting an online passport site.

There are two kinds of World Heritage Sites: cultural and natural. Africa is a continent that holds many World Heritage Sites, 119 to be exact. A family vacation to Africa, then, holds so much opportunity to experience some of the most famous sites on Earth. Here a few of them.

One of the oldest civilizations on earth has its ancient ruins located in Thebes, which is located in Egypt. The abundance of ancient Egyptian monuments, temples and relics make this a site that is both significant and interesting. One of the most interesting sites located in Thebes is the Necropolis. This is a burial ground for ancient Egyptian leaders including Hatshepsut, a female pharaoh regarded as one of the most influential and loved pharaohs in history. The famous Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens is also found here and attracts many visitors.

Moving on to Africa, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda is rich with biodiversity. A visitor can find over 120 species of mammals, 202 species of butterflies, 27 species of frogs and 346 species of birds at this location enjoying the beautiful terrain. Other sites that draw visitors include the mountain gorilla known as the Bwindi gorilla as well as numerous species of monkeys. The thick forest coupled with the altitude has encouraged a vast number of animal species to grow and thrive. Many other African forests and jungles have been labeled World Heritage Sites. It would not be difficult to enjoy an African safari in any one of these sites.

Located in South Africa are the Fossil Hominid Sites of Sterkfontein, Swartkrans, Kromdraai, and Environs. These sites, called the Cradle of Humankind, are locations where several fossils of our earliest ancestors have been found, same dating as far back as 3.5 million years ago. As one of the few sites on Earth with perfect conditions for preserving fossils, this site has become critically important for scientists looking to unravel our early history.
