Are you prepared...Or will you be caught with your pants around your ankles?

6:50am came early for me today...damn roofers started that early! The day before they didn't start until 9:30am - well after my normal wake-up

time of 7:30. With that "expectation" (bad word) I stayed late catching up with the guys I lead in a Men's Group on Tuesday nights, came home

had my favorite snack (sliced apple with Skippy Natural smooth peanut butter) and did some reading. I figured I could get up at 8am and get

the rest I felt I'd need...that didn't work out so well.

When the sound of clanging and clattering woke me up and I saw what time it was I immediately assumed some vagabond was walking around and

decided to help themselves to some tools that were on the front porch. Nope. Start time was much earlier than the day before. I was totally

unprepared.

I woke up groggy, back sore and stiff, craving an espresso with the thought running through my head, "This is gonna be a LOOOONG day."

I was unprepared for the early wake up time. And as I thought about it, I thought about (surprise, surprise) my favorite topic: You. Well,

OK, relationships in general, but THEN I thought about you. And I wondered, how often are you and I unprepared for what happens in relationship?

In fact, I don't know ANYONE who actually PREPARES for divorce (much less how to stop your divorce). But why not? If the national divorce

rate is around 50%, wouldn't you just be statistically smart by choosing to prepare for how to save your marriage?

You see, the lack of preparation didn't happen this morning. It happened last night with some INNOCENT decisions: "I'll just stay a little

later and hang out with these guys and catch up some more." And then, "I'm gonna have a snack and read a bit before I go to bed." Followed by,

"I'll get up at 8am". I was totally unprepared for a early 6:50am wake up call involving hammers ;)

Yet how many times have you been caught off guard, unprepared, for the events, challenges, struggles, situations, or problems in your

relationship? You aren't simply trying to save your marriage for the fun of it. No, events, patterns, habits, choices - maybe seemingly small

& innocuous - have been made over months and years leading to this now unavoidable event. If you're truly serious about stopping your divorce then

what I hope you get is this: A lack of preparation will sneak up on you when you least expect it - when you're pants are around your ankles -

and trip you up. What this means to yous is if you're going to be SUCCESSFUL in saving your marriage by listening to me and doing EXACTLY

what I tell you to do, they you had best begin preparing for how you're going to now stop the tide rushing your divorce along and then

turning the tide in your favor so you can get the marriage you had always hoped for (no easy feat, but it IS possible)

I don't know many couples who "prepare" for an argument, how to deal with conflict - before it happens. I don't know many couples who "prepare"

for ten, twenty, or thirty years down the road by determining what the purpose of their relationship is (developing a vision) so they don't get

knocked off track and not even realize it until they're in distress and dissatisfied in their relationship.

I encourage you and challenge you, as I do myself, to prepare, to plan, to be proactive. Take the fight to possible issues/problems/challenges

before the fight comes to you and knocks you on your ass because you didn't see it coming. Isn't that how most problems happen in a relationship

anyhow? No one saw it coming, or if you did, you and your partner simply chose not to prepare for it. You'd never run a marathon with out

preparing first, right? Months of training runs, stretching, fine-tuning your nutrition. You'd never take a test without preparing first too

(if you wanted to do well) - studying, memorizing, answering practice questions. However, for whatever reason, I rarely ever see ANYONE

prepare for the inevitable in relationship - conflict, disagreement, butting heads; stress or worse yet, distress; parenting issues; stuggles

around your sex life; different expectations; unmet or frustrated need fulfillment; and on and on and on. Are you tired of the STRUGGLE? The

pain? The loss? The frustration? The blame? Start preparing! Trouble is UNAVOIDABLE when it comes to relationship. Why? Because there's

two people involved :) It's natural, but that doesn't mean you cannot thrive & still experience the peace, passion, happiness & love you want

on an ever increasing basis. It DOES MEAN you had better prepare, however.
