A first date is all about first impressions. Maybe you have met the girl you're planning to date before and know something about her. Or, if you've met her online, you'll know about her from her profile and conversations you've surely had. If this is a blind date, find out something about her from whoever set you up with her. Showing interest in your date is the first step to winning a girl's heart on a first date and it's easier to show interest if you have some clue as to what to talk about.
You've got the girl on the phone and are having a winning conversation and are ready to set up the first date. Do you just make a decision and tell her what you plan on doing and ask her if she'd like to join you? Do you ask her to plan a date? Or do you collaborate and plan something together? That's really up to you and your potential date. Often, planning a date together is the best idea.
Dress for success! This is a date, not a day hanging out in front of the TV. Take a shower. Make sure your teeth are brushed and don't forget the deodorant! First date can be nerve wracking! Don't pour on the cologne. A little dab'll do ya! And dress for the occasion. Don't wear a suit for a picnic or cargo shorts for that nice little French bistro.
Be sober. Don't show up after having too many drinks or using drugs and don't drink too much while you're with your date. Most girls prefer a sober date!
Now you have a chance to chat. Be yourself but not too much yourself. If you have a sense of humor, use it. But don't tell too many jokes and don't tell ANY dirty jokes. Make conversation that's appropriate to where you are and what you're doing. Show respect for other people, especially women.
Ask your date about her interests. Be interested! A cardinal rule of conversation with a woman is to look into her eyes and not at her chest while you're chatting. That is a big turn off to most women.
Make her feel beautiful. Compliment her on her pretty hair or eyes. Don't go overboard though. That will make you come off as a phony.
Be a gentleman. If she's cold offer her your jacket. Pull out chairs. Open car doors. Don't go overboard but make that little bit of effort.
Follow the guidelines above to win a girl's heart on the first date. If you do you'll surely be a hit on any first date, unless it turns out that you and your date have "irreconcilable differences." Even then, she'll probably think you're a nice guy and be willing to suggest you to friends as a great date so it will be a win/win situation!
