How to Make a Wedding Veil
Recently I got married to the man of my life, my best friend
. We had the most wonderful wedding anyone could ask for. Throughout the night we received so many compliments on how beautiful everything was and how good the food was. I wish we could relive the night all the time. And you know that saying, something borrowed, something blue, something old and something new? I had all of that thanks to my friends and family.
My something borrowed was my veil. See my mom is quite the talented crafterwhen she needs to be, so she made my veil, kind of. I borrowed my sister's veil from her wedding and we re-did it. It was plain with ribbing around the edges, but I didn't really like the ribbing, so we took it off. If you're starting from scratch on making a veil then all you need to do is go to the store and look at the material. You need to decide what length you want your veil to be and how wide you want it to be, then you just have the store cut it for you.
The next step is you need to decide how fancy you want your veil. If you want added jewels, gems, sparkles, ribbon, anything you wish. I personally choose ribbon for the edging of my veil, it looked perfect with the type of dress I had. So after youget your materials all you need to do is glue the ribbon onto the edge of the veil. This is very tedious because it has to be done in small portions so you can allow it to dry before working on the next portion.
Once the ribbon part is done you can glue all your fun stuff on. Just put a dab of glue onto the jewel or gem. I actually bought little Swarovsky crystals from JoAnne Fabrics to put on the veil, but once all said and done, I decided not to put them on, however, I still believe that would be beautiful as the lighting will make it sparkle.
Now I'm sure you're wondering how to finish it off to put it in your hair. I took the easy way out. We didn't use a clip or a comb, but we just used two bobbypins. The veil itself was strung through a thin fish wire and at the end of each wire was a loop so that we couldput the bobby pin through the loop and put it in my hair. You can however use one of those combs for easy in and out. You would just need to wrap the fish wire around the comb a few times making a knot on each end so it will not come off. You can glue it as well for a little added security.
It's quite simple to make the veil of your dreams, you just have to know what look you're going for. Once it's complete you can wear it on your wedding day and have the greatest day of your life. Best of all, you can pass the veil down to your daughters for something borrowed and make it a family tradition.
