Do you remember what you wanted to be when you were in elementary school? You probably had huge ambitions at the time and didnt think much about preparation, logistics or goal-setting. Even as you grew older and put those dreams on hold, you probably still thought your original career choice was very cool. Maybe you wanted to be a doctor, a scientist, an astronaut or the president of the United States. What about today? If you still think your childhood fantasies would be a lot of fun and a very rewarding career then why have you given up the pursuit? Is it because it didnt seem practical anymore by the time you graduated high school? Were you worried about debt or about finding a more lucrative career? While its always a good idea to keep a practical perspective of money and finances, its quite sad to think about how many people stopped dreaming because of the restrictions of modern society. Modern society looks down upon dreamers. They think the most you could ever achieve is mid-level management. They think you are a product, not one of the great leaders of the 21th century. Because this negative social influence is so strong, most people are content to be average or just good enough. They lack ambitionthe same ambitions they once had when they were children and knew no limits except their imagination. If you find yourself dreaming and feeling bad about your life choices then its time for an attitude adjustment. Right now is the ideal time to give thought to your future since you are in high school and have the world in front of you. The question is are you going to follow your dreams or are you going to take the expected route, the route that others expect you to take? Do not live your life to appease others. Aim higher than what is the average. Do not be afraid to dream. Dreaming and fulfilling those dreams is what makes life worthwhile. When you love what you do, you are really alive. So do a little bit of soul searching and find out if your childhood dream is still part of your identity. If you still have similar aims but now have a fear of failure then its time to put your priorities in the proper order.
