How To Plan Your Wedding During The Recession

The economy maybe stinking real bad but that stench should not affect your wedding.

The global recession has been biting for sometime but the US in particular has been at the cutting edge; this has caused massive job losses, companies going under, foreclosures and more, forcing many people to reconsider their future plans. Weddings too have been affected but remember that a wedding is not an indulgence of sorts but a very significant ritual and an important milestone in your life.

If you've lost your job or are unsure about your employment state in the days to come, then you are most likely considering postponing or even canceling your wedding. And even if you want to stick to your original plan and proceed; you're most likely unsure about footing the huge wedding bills.

Irrespective of the gloomy picture; don't panic and cancel your wedding yet, below are ways to make your wedding work in spite of the recession.

Think About how you can reduce your wedding costs

The most apparent solution is to consider having a less costly wedding. However since that's easier said than done, you'll require some guts to make it work.

List Down The things you consider important about a wedding

If you have not filled the newly engaged questionnaire then this is a good time to do that

Doing this will help you determine the possibility of reducing costs and be able to retain the fundamentals that you consider the most important, do you prefer a fancy occasion with few people? Or do you want a rather simple occasion that can be attended by everyone you know? If you consider both options important, then make up your mind on whether having the wedding of your dreams is more important to you than getting married soon. If that is the case then you should consider postponing the wedding.

What about throwing a two-tier event?

If you're broke or lack money for a fancy event, then you may want to elope, or just have a modest wedding reception currently while you plan for a super event later on. This could also mean that you just wait until your jobs stabilize, or plan to wed on an important future occasion like on anniversary.

Wedding Insurance

If you're still employed, but worried about losing jobs soon and maybe not being able to afford a decent wedding, then a wedding insurance might be a good option. Just but be careful: various policies don't cover job losses, and others are very costly. Ensure it's a prudent financial decision for you.

Familiarize yourself with the Vendors' Cancelation Policy

Prior to signing contracts with a caterer or a photographer ensure that you understand what their cancellation policies say. Find out whether you can redeem all or part of your deposit should you decide to cancel the wedding before a certain date. Several wedding vendors will only charge you a minimal fee for cancelling or postponing, provided that you book them for a future event.

If you've already signed contract papers, take time to read through the fine print. If you have time before the cancellation date then it makes more sense to postpone or cancel now rather than waiting to see what happens later. If the money is non-refundable then you should just proceed with wedding regardless of money worries.
