How To Handle Day Of Wedding Stress
The day you have been thinking about your entire life and planning for over a year has finally arrived and you are a mess
. You think you will be okay when suddenly things start to go awry. Does this sound like a potential situation that you would like to avoid? If you said yes, and you would be crazy if you did not, then read on! Here are five details that you will want to consider as your big day draws near.
Take care of the little, important things early in the planning stages, even if it means you have to put something in storage. For instance, the personalized wedding favors should be ordered months in advance of the big day. If you put them in personalized favor boxes, they are more thoughtful and can be stacked and stored much easier. Take care of these kinds of things as early as possible so that you are not scrambling around as your date draws closer, trying to get everything done at once.
Early in your wedding planning days, find someone you can trust, a close friend or family member and recruit them to share the load. Their job...details. Ask them to make a list of how to plan the perfect wedding and then compare that list to your own. The difference is probably the details. Two heads are better than one and you have a lot to worry about. The week of your wedding, when you believe everything is under control, have them go through everything again. Designate this person as your official panic button, ready to spring into action as soon as problems spring up. Between the two of you, odds are that your wedding will go off without a hitch (or in this case, one hitch)
Know more than one route to the wedding ceremony location and make sure everyone who has a role knows more than one route as well. The best way to ensure that everyone is on time is to map out everyone's drive, especially yours. Make sure you drive your routes several times in the weeks leading up to your wedding more than once. Always drive them on the same day of the week you are getting married and at the same time of day. This way, if there is some kind of delay on the day of, you will be ready with an alternate route.
Prepare a couple of emergency kits and place them at strategic locations. In the kits, include a small sewing kit, a list of important phone numbers including the number to the location, and enough money to pay a cab from anywhere between your home and the wedding. Also, carry one of the kits with you when you leave for the wedding. This way, no matter where you are when the seam comes out of the wedding dress or the groom splits his rented tux, you will be prepared for it.
Call your vendors and caterers a month and a week in advance of the big day to make sure that everyone will be where they are supposed to be at exactly the time they are supposed to be there. Do not leave this to chance. Hopefully none of the companies that are hired to service your wedding were hired with a verbal contract. Get everything in writing and have a witness, even if it is a member or close friend of the family. This holds true especially for the photographer.
Finally, remember to breath. Even if one or two things do not pan out exactly as you had planned, do not panic. Things will go wrong but it does not matter. You are getting married today and this day should be filled with joy. A wedding day is really the only day that can be remembered as the very best and the very worst day of your life at the same time. This can be avoided if you stop for a few moments and contemplate the real meaning of the day.
