Maybe you are the one who got broke up with or maybe you are the one that initiated the break up for whatever reason even though you still cared about them as a person. It can be hard to move on from a relationship because there were many moments of shared joy and many happy memories that are still around.

Here are 10 ways to move on after a break up and make it easier on your mind and your life.

1. Allow yourself to grieve the relationship.

It was a big part of your life and now it's gone! You have to take the time out to accept that the relationship is no longer a part of your life if you are ever going to move on from it.

2. Give personal belongings back.

Don't destroy their personal belongings or give them away to other people but instead give them back directly to your ex. Having those things around will remind you at every turn about the break up and getting rid of them and replacing them with new things will help you move on.

3. Don't talk bad about them to other people.

When you start to slam their name to everyone that walks by you are not only making yourself look like a small person but you are also holding on their memories and keeping the relationship alive in your brain. How are you supposed to move on after a break up if you are still actively thinking about them as much as you did when you were in the relationship?

4. Don't stalk them on facebook or anywhere else you know they are actively involved with.

6. Break your routine in two.

You don't have to get a new job or go to a new school but you shouldn't be going to the same restaurants on the same days you two used to go. This will only keep your memories around longer and make it harder to move on. Make a new routine and call it your new life.

7. Get involved in new activities.

Your relationship consisted of things that you shared together and interests that you enjoyed as a couple. Search out some new interests and get involved in some new activities either by yourself or with your friends. This will allow you to move your life forward from you relationship and get involved in a new life with new people.

Ask yourself questions about you and your relationships like how do you want to be treated? What do you want to get out of a relationship? How should a relationship make you feel?

Figuring out what you want out of relationships will allow you to see that your ex was not giving you the things that you need in your life and that the break up was probably for a good reason.

9. Laugh and enjoy life.

Laughter will not only make you feel better after a break up but it will also remind you that there is more to life than your ex. Laughter happens when you are living in the moment and that can only happy when you are truly enjoying that moment. Remember that the moment is without your ex and that life with laughter is possible without your ex.

10. Work on your self-confidence and self-worth.

When you start to become more confident with yourself and your abilities then you start to see that you deserve relationships that will nurture your confidence and worth and not bring them down. You will start to actively look for things that make you feel good about life and happy and unhappiness and unhappy relationship will start to drift away. Any future relationship that you bring into your life will be based upon your happiness and making you feel good and your break up with your ex will become an unhappy moment that no longer has a place in your happy life.
