How To Ensure The Growth And Development Of Muscles
Protein is the building block for our bodies and for a bodybuilder
, eating just the correct amount of protein is a must. For muscles to form, one needs about one gram of protein per kilo of body weight. So eating less or no protein at all can be dangerous for a person who visits the gym regularly in the hope of developing huge muscles. Too much of protein intake can also be detrimental to an aspiring bodybuilder. When the body takes in extra or excess protein it converts it to fat to be stored in the body or it burns it out to produce energy. So to ensure growth and development of muscles a bodybuilder needs to take in just about 1.1 grams of protein per pound.
Carbohydrates are also very important to a bodybuilder. However, care must be taken not to consume the wrong type of carbohydrates. There is the simple carbohydrate which is made up of sugars and there is the complex carbohydrates mostly found in cereals. Some bodybuilders take in a lot of simple carbohydrates in the form of chocolate, donuts and potatoes. Even though some give the body a lot of instant energy, they also vanish or are used up very quickly by the body, leaving it devoid of energy. It is therefore advisable to eat complex carbohydrates which are usually taken in slowly by the body system and so ensures energy throughout the day. The more the carbohydrates, the better for the body, because in carbohydrate absence, it is protein which is utilized by the body to produce energy in a process called glyco-genesis.
It is up to every bodybuilder to discipline himself when it comes to dieting. In most cases, the types of food that we like to eat all the time such as cookies, ice cream, fries and cakes have quite a large number of calories which if taken in excess can easily be converted into fat that will drag the growth and development of muscles. So many body builders 'cheat' by eating junk food at least ones a week, but if it exceeds that or becomes habitual then the process of gaining muscles will surely slow down. So, if a bodybuilder must eat his favorite food which happens to be junks then he should minimize on the process.
There is yet another myth that for a bodybuilder to be successful, he should take in nutrient supplements. This mainly happens when the amount or cost of food required to get the required nutrients cannot be acquired from the natural food. However, research has shown that the nutrients got from natural foods are far more helpful and nutritious compared to the supplements.
Some people also have been made to believe that all fats are unhealthy for the body which is not so. Fats help the body attain mass and keep the body healthy. Foods such as natural peanuts, egg yolks, canola oil, fish oils, virgin olive oil and flax seed oil contain very healthy natural fats. They support metabolism and help in the production of hormones. The only fats that a bodybuilder should stay away from are saturated fats or Trans fatty acids.
