How To Do A Themed Wedding

You may be running the other way at the very thought of a themed wedding

, and you have much reason to do so. Most often we have witnessed the disaster of a themed wedding or have the lovely thought from the movie "27 Dresses." No, a themed wedding does not have to be sure torture for your wedding party and guests. There is a way to have a fun, classy, themed wedding; one where you won't be embarrassed to show off your pictures in the upcoming years. No one wants to look back and say, "Wow, what was I thinking?" If at any point throughout the planning process this comes to light, the wedding party is probably thinking it ten-fold.

Think about the types of themes or the general direction that you are interested in going. The idea is to do it subtly; you don't have to go wild and crazy. A little does actually go a long way. Perhaps you have chosen to have a Hollywood Glamour themed wedding. Choose simple lines, bold colors, but not too many, and you can glam it up with class.

On the invitation make sure that you let people know the theme or the part that you would like them to dress. Remember not everyone will jump on board if it's too far fetched; think about granny. Don't take it personal if some choose not to go full force with the theme. Give a general direction and let people run with their ideas. You'll be amazed at how the creativity will flow. You may even want to advertise that there will be a competition and prize giveaway. A little bribery never hurts!

You can pick themes of all sorts, but try to stay general. You have eras: 50's, 60's, 70's and so on. There is always culture to fall back on, even if it's not your own. You may just really have an appreciation for a particular culture and want to incorporate it. The seasons are pretty general; spring, summer, winter and fall and can all have beautiful dcor.

The theme can run throughout the entire event without it being tacky. The first impression is the invitation and will set the stage for your themed wedding. Your invitation should be in a style that portrays your theme. Hair styles, apparel, food, music and dcor can all be tailored into any chosen theme.

If you are unsure about how to incorporate your theme into the different facets of your event try finding a wedding planner. There are many wedding planners that specialize in theme weddings or have creative design processes and would be willing to take one on. If this is not an option or you don't want a wedding planner try starting by picking your venue first. After having your venue picked out all your other choices will come much easier once you can imagine the environment that they'll be placed in. In many instances the venue itself will be the major theme and other details don't need to push it as strong.

While making your choices don't try to find the theme in every little piece or it will be overwhelming and gaudy. Pick classic and timeless choices that project your ideas. It's all in the details.
